World number one Scottie Scheffler had a difficult start to 2025, after sustaining a hand injury while cooking Christmas dinner. However, the two-time Masters champion is coming back into form and will be aiming to take his first US PGA title. He tied for 8th last year, after breaking his streak of 42 consecutive rounds of par or better on the PGA Tour. 2024 saw nine tournament wins, including his 2nd Major title at Augusta and the Olympic Gold Medal. He will be the man to beat and 5/1 is an attractive price.
Xander Schauffele to defend title: 12/1 with SpreadEx
If you’re looking for an alternative to Scheffler, then how about backing Xander Schauffele to make a title defence? The American, who had previously been coached by his father, started working with Chris Como ahead of the 2024 season and enjoyed a stellar year. The US PGA saw him land his first Major and he backed this up with victory at the Open. Like Scheffler, Schauffele’s start to 2025 has been disrupted by injury. But there are signs that he could hit form in time for the Majors. The course at the Quail Hollow Club could be to his liking. He finished runner-up there in the Wells Fargo Championship in 2023 and 2024. 12/1 with SpreadEx represents good value.
Rory McIlroy to make it to the top 5: 9/4 with bet365
It’s been 11 years since Rory McIlroy won a Major. However, the Northern Irishman, currently ranked 2nd in the world, has had a strong start to 2025 and should be in the mix to repeat his victories at the PGA Championship in 2011 and 2014. McIlroy has a best of a tie for 7th at the PGA Championship since his 2014 win. But we think that things could be about to change and that bet365’s price is decent value. Max Homa
Max Homa has won six times on the PGA Tour, with his best Major result coming when he tied for third place in the 2024 Masters Tournament. His best finish in the US PGA Championship was in 2022 when he tied for 13th. Crucially, two of Homa’s PGA Tour wins came at Quail Hollow, Charlotte, in 2019 and 2022, meaning that he can handle the course. Homa may be an unlikely winner, however, he is one to watch and could be a good each-way bet.
Wyndham Clark
Wyndam Clark won his first Major at the 2023 US Open. Although he has no great pedigree in the US PGA, he is another player who has tasted recent success at Quail Hollow. He could be worth a good each-way bet or a good selection for a top ten finish.
Brooks Koepka
